Nagnath Pokhari: Historical Background
Nagnath Pokhari was the capital of the Kings of Naga dynasty; this place is also known as the native place of Pusker Nag. The remains of the small Nagpur forts, which are said to have been inhabited by the Naga Kings, are still present here. A temple of Goddess Raj-Rajeshwari is situated near the fort. There are many temples of Lord Shiva in and around the town of Pokhari; Bameshwer, Veeneshwer, Salna-Mahadev and Banaj temple being the main ones. In addition to these there are temples of different Goddess - Chamunda Temple, Chamethi, Devsthan Temple, Viseswari Temple and Dukhthambha Temple. There is a grand Kartikey Swami Temple on the top of the Kronch Mountain. According to mythology, at this place Lord Kartikey (Skand Kumar) worshipped for a long period of time; he got so lost in meditation that later his body was found in the form of a skeleton.
